SERMON PREVIEW: PENTECOST
Scripture: Acts 2: 1 – 21
Sermon Title: A Rush of Wind – for Everyone

The arrival of the Holy Spirit is a familiar, dramatic event. A group of disciples were gathered together, and suddenly were engulfed with a loud sound and divided tongues that looked like fire. But what happened next was even stranger. All of a sudden, these disciples were able to teach others about God’s deeds of power – by speaking in languages they had never studied or practiced! The crowd heard them speaking and gathered, confused and skeptical. And then Peter stepped up and gave the first Christian sermon, starting with ancient words from the prophet Joel.

It’s a memorable event, but what does it have to do with our life and mission as a congregation following Jesus in the 21st century? Everything! The Holy Spirit was, and is, for everyone – people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and socioeconomic levels. Join us Sunday as we explore this surprisingly inclusive story of the founding of the church. See you Sunday, in person or online. You are encouraged to wear red on Sunday in celebration of Pentecost.

CAMP COMMISSIONING THIS SUNDAY
We are lucky enough to have a large group of campers, counselors, directors, keynoters, storytellers, and other supporters attending Camp Christian this summer. This Sunday, June 8, we will commission all those going to camp, and send them off with our blessings and prayers. We hope you can join us for this special moment in worship. You are welcome to wear a camp t-shirt as part of this special celebration.

Want to send cards to our campers and camp staff this summer? In the gathering space, you will find a list of those going to camp, cards to send good wishes, and envelopes for each camp session. We will send cards to each camp session with a director or counselor. Chi Rho is the first camp session, beginning on Monday, June 9. Please bring your cards for Chi Rho campers and staff to worship on Sunday, or take a few minutes to write cards at the church. Thank you for your ongoing support and words of encouragement – our campers and staff really appreciate them!

CO-OP 30TH BIRTHDAY THIS SATURDAY
The Lawrenceville Co-op is celebrating their 30th birthday this Saturday, June 7 from 10 to 11:30 am. They will have cake, a DJ, tours, some history shared, and an opportunity for you to donate a can, a dollar, or an hour of your time to continue the legacy of this amazing ministry. Please plan to stop by!

LFCC will host the cake table, and will serve cake/cupcakes, lemonade and water to participants. The co-op will provide the cake and drinks. If you are available to help out, either at 9:30 f0r set up or at 10 for the actual event, talk to Rod Baker.

PENTECOST SPECIAL OFFERING THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday, we will collect the Pentecost Special Offering, which supports Disciples new church development. Planning, nurturing and sustaining new congregation is part of the Disciples’ vision. Gifts to the Pentecost Offering support new church development through both regional and general programs. Our own Story Forest Christian Church, the Korean-language congregation that meets in our sanctuary on Sunday afternoons, receives funding from the Pentecost Special Offering. To be sure your Pentecost offerings are designated for New Church Ministry, please mark your checks or online contributions with “Pentecost Offering.”

Thank you for your generous support that enables the church to spread the Good News from our doorsteps to the ends of the earth.

DISCIPLES WOMEN UPDATE
The next Disciples Women meeting will be on Tuesday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. Join us for Bible study and fellowship. We will begin planning the ice cream social, which will be held on August 17.

(Not a picture of the actual playground!)
HELP INSTALL THE FAMILY PROMISE PLAYGROUND!
Family Promise has purchased a Treasure Trove wooden playground set with some grant funds – and they need help installing it. Installation is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, starting at 9 am,, and we need a 4 – 5 person team to help with installation. If you have experience installing a similar set, if you’re willing to read instructions, and/or if you’re able to offer some muscle and follow directions, we need you! Please talk to Rod Baker if you’re available that day.

CAMP WORK DAYS THIS WEEK
Camp Christian needs volunteers to help get ready for summer camp this week. Tasks include cleaning cabins, the bathhouse, the director’s bungalow, and the villas. Please plan to bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks to work days. Marilyn Parks will be there on Friday, June 6. Please reach out to Marilyn if you are able to help.
