Hands-on Projects
- Trunk or Treat: We hold a community trunk or treat on the Sunday before Halloween each year. Church families decorate their cars and hand out candy. The entire community is invited to this fun event.
- Red Cross Blood Drives: We host Red Cross Blood Drives at the church four times per year (in February, May, August, and November). Church members volunteer in the canteen during the drives, and several church members sign up to donate on those days.
- Prayer Garden: We have a prayer garden behind the church, which is maintained by volunteers who weed, pull up ivy, sweep paths, plant flowers, and many other tasks. Our most recent Easter sunrise service took place in the prayer garden.
- Live Nativity: We hold a Live Nativity in mid-December. This outdoor presentation is a visual reminder of the birth of Jesus and all those who gathered to worship him. Roles in the Live Nativity are filled by church members (young and old) and friends. Cookies and cocoa are available for all. There are three performances of the Live Nativity: at 6:30 pm, 7 pm, and 7:30 pm.
Collections
- Food: We collect non-perishable food for the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry each week, using their lists of most-needed food items as a guide. The first Sunday of each month is designated as First Sunday Food, when we bless all of the food offerings received in the previous year.
- School Supplies: Every July, we collect school supplies for Cedar Hill Elementary School, Richards Middle School, and Central Gwinnett High School. Supplies are delivered to the schools just before the new academic year begins so students and teachers will be well-equipped to succeed.
- Gift Cards: During November and December, we collect Target and Walmart gift cards for Cedar Hill Elementary School. The gift cards are delivered to the school counselors in early December. The counselors distribute the cards to families who need additional help buying Christmas gifts for their children.
Building Space
- YMCA Early Learning: We provide space twice each week to the YMCA mobile Early Learning Readiness Program, which serves primarily Spanish-speaking children and families. We have partnered with the YMCA to support this program for 13 years.
- Cub Scouts: We provide space each week for a Cub Scout den for their regular meetings. A member of our congregation is present to support the Cub Scout leaders during these meetings.
- LifeLine Screening: We provide space twice each year for LifeLine health screenings. Community members can receive up to four different screenings that measure risk of heart disease and stroke.
Learning Opportunities
Adult Sunday School
Our Adult Sunday School offers short-term, engaging series throughout the year that explore theology, Bible study, and modern faith. These classes typically meet at 10:00 am on Sundays in the Conference Room. Whether we are diving into a specific book of the Bible or discussing how to live out our values in daily life, these sessions are a wonderful way to grow in spirit and community. Watch our newsletter and Sunday bulletins for announcements on our next upcoming series! For more information, please contact Rev. Diane.
Youth Sunday School
The youth Sunday school class is for young people in grades 6 – 12. The class meets in the Youth Room at 10 am on Sundays for Bible study and conversation about faith issues of interest to middle school and high school students. Elizabeth McElhanon is the main youth teacher, supported by Rev. Diane Bales. For more information about the youth Sunday school class, contact Rev. Diane. Learn more about other youth activities at LFCC.
