SERMON PREVIEW: CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY
Scripture: Luke 23: 33-43
Sermon Title: TBD
This Sunday is the last Sunday of the Christian year, known as Christ the King Sunday or Reign of Christ Sunday. It is a feast day in the Catholic church, established by Pope Pius XI in 1925, in response to an increase in secularism and ultra-nationalism around the world. For Catholics and Protestants alike, it is a time to remember that ultimate power and authority belong to Christ and when we recommit ourselves to service to God.
The gospel reading for this Sunday is Luke’s account of Christ on the cross. Although it may seem strange to read about the crucifixion in late November, this account actually has a lot to teach us about Christ’s compassion, even in the final moments of his life. We will look at this story with fresh eyes as we explore what it means to have Christ the King as our ultimate authority and to serve Christ. See you Sunday morning, in person or online.

ANGEL TREE FOR CEDAR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
As the holiday season approaches, our minds and hearts reach out to those families who struggle to provide holiday gifts for their children. We are working with the Cedar Hill Elementary School counselors to provide gift cards so families can buy gifts for their children. If you would like to help out, you can buy $25 gift cards from either Target or Walmart. Rod Baker will collect the cards on Sunday mornings. Please bring all gift cards to church by Sunday, December 7. If you would rather give cash, Rod will happily receive it and use it to purchase gift cards. Thanks for your support of our neighborhood children and families.

THANKSGIVING SPECIAL OFFERING
During this Thanksgiving time of year, we are grateful that since its beginning, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has prioritized support of higher education, currently helping to fund 15 colleges and universities, and 7 seminaries and divinity houses, all of which are affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Your gift to the Thanksgiving Offering, received on November 16 and 23, 2025, helps nurture this long history of Disciples higher education. From Texas Christian University, to Jarvis College, Lynchburg University, Lexington Theological Seminary, Christian Theological Seminary, and many more, your gift to the Thanksgiving Offering helps educate students and form leaders who are making a difference in the world. You can learn more about these institutions here.
You can give to the Thanksgiving Special Offering in the regular offering plate or by mailing a check to the church. Be sure to mark your offering “Thanksgiving Offering” so we will know where to direct it. You can also donate online at the Disciples Mission Fund site, or by scanning the QR code in the image above. When giving, select “Thanksgiving Offering” and be sure to indicate your congregation’s name. Your gift is enhancing the education of thousands of students in Disciples colleges, universities, seminaries, and divinity houses. Thank you for giving generously!

HANGING OF THE GREENS ON NOV. 30
On Sunday, November 30, we will celebrate the first Sunday of Advent with a Hanging of the Greens Service. During this special service, we will hear more about the meaning of different decorations in our sanctuary as we place the final decorations during worship. We need volunteers to help carry in and set up specific decorations that morning. If you are willing to help out, please talk to Rev. Diane.
We will prepare the sanctuary for Hanging of the Greens after worship this coming Sunday, November 23. Many hands are needed to help decorate the Chrismon tree, set up the Advent wreath and nativity scene, place the poinsettias, and more. Please plan to stay after worship on Sunday to help us prepare.

BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE
The holiday season is full of cheer for many — but for some people, the holidays can be full of sadness, pain, or grief. On Sunday, December 14 at 3 pm, we will hold a “Blue Christmas” service. The service will provide a safe space for those who are isolated or struggling, and will provide space to acknowledge that sorrow and joy can coexist. We will reflect together, share communion, and find ways to hold on to hope and light in the midst of sorrow. We hope you will join us for this special service of contemplation.

She will have it with her in worship for the next few weeks. Please let her know either on the next few Sunday mornings which month(s) ARE NOT good months for you in 2026. Do not worry if something comes up that you don’t know about now, you can always trade with someone. You can also send Kim a text or email if you prefer.
