SUNDAY PREVIEW: ADVENT IS HERE!
Scripture: Isaiah 9: 2, 6-7
Sermon Title: Hanging of the Greens

This Sunday, November 30, we will celebrate the first Sunday of Advent with a Hanging of the Greens Service. During this special service, we will hear more about the meaning of different decorations in our sanctuary as we place the final decorations during worship. We will read scripture related to the Advent season, and we will sing some of our favorite carols. If you have volunteered to help bring in decorations during this service, please check in with Rev. Diane a few minutes before worship starts. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare the sanctuary for Hanging of the Greens after worship last week! See you Sunday morning, in person or online.

ADVENT BIBLE STUDY BEGINS TONIGHT!
Our Advent Bible study begins this evening (Wednesday, November 26)! This Advent Bible Study will take place on Zoom each Wednesday from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. We will use a curriculum that explores the names for Jesus from The Messiah, written by American theologian Walter Brueggemann. The Bible study sessions will be held on November 26, December 3, December 10, and December 17. Join us for any or all sessions as your schedule allows.

ADVENT DEVOTIONAL: GROUNDED IN GRACE
The Advent devotional, “Grounded in Grace,” is available for you to pick up in the gathering space this Sunday. The devotional was written by Amanda Henderson, Director of the Institute for Religion, Politics, and Culture at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver. The devotional is a great way to guide your personal reflections as we move through the season of Advent. Here is the description of the devotional from Chalice Press:

In seasons when uncertainty, instability, and disorder abound, it’s easy to feel lost, overwhelmed, or stuck in a rut of sadness and doubt. The onset of winter can bring a sense of dread for long, dark, and cold days ahead, reflecting the deeper anxieties of a world grappling with conflict, division, and existential dilemmas. You might find yourself in a “sleep-awake state,” going through the motions, or feeling disconnected from what truly matters. What can you reach for? What can you hold onto?

Grounded in Grace offers a profound invitation to discover stability, connection, and purpose amidst life’s complexities. This Advent journey is designed to help you find grounding in what matters most: your tie to God and one another through Christ. It’s a path to active waiting and quiet transformation, preparing you for the days ahead and fostering resilience.

ANGEL TREE FOR CEDAR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
As the holiday season approaches, our minds and hearts reach out to those families who struggle to provide holiday gifts for their children. We are working with the Cedar Hill Elementary School counselors to provide gift cards so families can buy gifts for their children. If you would like to help out, you can buy $25 gift cards from either Target or Walmart. Rod Baker will collect the cards on Sunday mornings. Please bring all gift cards to church by Sunday, December 7. If you would rather give cash, Rod will happily receive it and use it to purchase gift cards. Thanks for your support of our neighborhood children and families.

DISCIPLES WOMEN CHRISTMAS PARTY
The annual Disciples Women Christmas potluck luncheon will be on Tuesday, December 9 at 12:30 in Fellowship Hall. All women from the church are invited to come. Food items being brought thus far are turkey, dressing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, green beans, bing cherry congealed salad, cranberries, cookies, and chocolate cake. Please let Betty Higdon, Marilyn Parks, Elizabeth McElhanon or Karen Jensen know if you plan to attend and what you will bring.

BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE
The holiday season is full of cheer for many — but for some people, the holidays can be full of sadness, pain, or grief. On Sunday, December 14 at 3 pm, we will hold a “Blue Christmas” service. The service will provide a safe space for those who are isolated or struggling, and will provide space to acknowledge that sorrow and joy can coexist. We will reflect together, share communion, and find ways to hold on to hope and light in the midst of sorrow. We hope you will join us for this special service of contemplation.
SERVING SCHEDULE UPDATE FOR ELDERS AND DEACONS
It will soon be the new year and we are in the process of creating the rotation schedule for Elders and Deacons serving at The Table during Sunday worship. Kim Peeples is coordinating the list. She will have it with her in worship for the next few weeks. Please let her know either on the next few Sunday mornings which month(s) ARE NOT good months for you in 2026. Do not worry if something comes up that you don’t know about now, you can always trade with someone. You can also send Kim a text or email if you prefer.

LET’S EAT!
A group of LFCC members and friends met at BiBa’s Italian restaurant for food and fellowship in November. Please plan to join us for the next Let’s Eat! on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 pm at Papi’s Cuban Grill.
